State softball preview: Facing adversity from the start, Mead has fought back to earn first state berth in two decades

The long road back to championship weekend was far from smooth though for Mead (16-8), which will face 18th-seeded Heritage in a loser-out game Thursday at 3 p.m.

What happened: Addison Jay hit a walk-off two-run home run in the seventh inning to push the fourth-seeded Wildcats (21-3) past the Lions (13-8) in a 3A state first-round game on Friday at the Regional Athletic Complex in Lacey, WA. Lila McBee led Auburn Mountainview with tow hits, including a double. Mt. Spokane faces Auburn Riverside in a quarterfinal this afternoon.

What happened: Kaylee Walker went 4 for 4 with two home runs and the visiting fifth-seeded Ravens (22-5) beat the fourth-seeded Wildcats (21-4) in a 3A state quarterfinal on Friday at the Regional Athletic Complex in Lacey, WA. Addi Jay homered for Mt. Spokane. Mt. Spokane plays Ballard in a loser-out later this evening.
