Clearwater Paper reports earnings loss for second quarter

Spokane-based Clearwater Paper Co. reported a net loss in earnings during the second quarter.

The company reported a net loss in earnings of $400,000, or 3 cents per share, compared to net earnings of $7 million, or 42 cents per share in the second quarter of 2018, according to a company statement.

The decrease in net earnings was the result of costs associated with startup of the company’s new paper machine Shelby, North Carolina, and maintenance at mills in Shelby; Cypress Bend, Arkansas; and Lewiston.
