Education notebook: NW Christian students’ efforts benefit those in need here and abroad

Northwest Christian Middle School students recently completed several service projects. Students participated in the international fundraiser, Operation Christmas Child, sending nearly 40 shoeboxes of donated goods to children in need.

The NWC middle school and high school students also have been active in the local community.

Middle school students collected over a half-ton of nonperishable food for Second Harvest Food Bank. They also made and donated fleece blankets for Life Services.

High school students made a special delivery to young patients at Providence Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital. For the third year running, students made “PICC pal” pillows for children undergoing chemotherapy. The pillows provide comfort for long-term treatments that require a peripherally inserted central catheter.

STCU award for leadership

Deer Park High School student Malia Fay has been awarded an STCU-sponsored award, Credit 2 Kids. She was nominated by her teacher, Brittany Schupman, for work in school leadership and service during traveling abroad to help impoverished children living in orphanages. She was presented the award during a KREM2 Morning News segment while working to coordinate the school’s annual blood drive. Recipients receive a $500 check for their school as well as a chance to later receive a $5,000 grand prize to present to their school.

WVSD bestows highest honor to early learning center employee

West Valley Early Learning Center secretary and special services coordinator Terri Hennessy was honored with the district Above and Beyond Award. The award is the highest honor given by the West Valley School District.
