Spokane runners planning memorial for Boston tragedy

Members of Spokane’s running community will set up a memorial at the Runners Sculpture in River Front Park between 5:30 and 6 p.m. today to show their support for those affected by the tragedy in Boston. LED candles and flowers will be placed in donated pairs of gently used running shoes placed at the base of the Runners sculpture. The shoes will later be donated to Crosswalk Teen Shelter, Hope House, and other organizations serving homeless individuals and youth in need, a news release from the Flying Irish running club said. The runners will also hang a sign that says, “Spokane Loves Boston.” The public is encouraged to show their support by dropping off shoes at the sculpture, where shoes will be collected daily until Friday, or by bringing shoes to the Flying Irish Running Club on Thursday, at 6 p.m. at the Red Lion Hotel on the River. Shoes can also be dropped off at Runners Soul at 221 N. Wall Street.
