‘Chicago,’ ‘Muppets’ provide music and family fun

Tonight’s must-see

“Chicago” (2002, E) or “The Muppets’ Wizard of Oz” (2005, Disney Channel), both 8 p.m. In a serious month, it’s a good time for a fun musical.

“Chicago” is the big one. The zesty music of John Kander and Fred Ebb link with Rob Marshall’s vibrant direction. The result won six Oscars

For a fun family film, catch the Muppets. Latifah is in this one, too (as Aunt Em), but the stars are Ashanti and lots of fuzzy puppets.

Tonight’s might-see

“The Tony Rock Project” debut,” 8 p.m., MyNetwork. Like most short-form comedy shows, this is erratic. Some parts – a real hidden-camera bit and a fake one – flop; others are very funny. The best have real people in a focus group, watching absurdly racist and sexist ads.

Other choices include

“Bones,” 8 p.m., Fox. The pastor of a small religious community has been killed.

“Pushing Daisies,” 8 p.m., ABC. Last week, Olive was whisked off to a nunnery; now a guilty Lily visits. Others try to find a teen who ran off to join a circus – one in which people keep dying.

“Private Practice,” 9 p.m., ABC. As the practice veers near bankruptcy, Addison and Sam try to take over.

“Biggest Loser,” 9 p.m., NBC. Here’s the second half of Tuesday’s episode.

“Dirty Sexy Money,” 10:01 p.m., ABC. Last week, the wife of Patrick Darling accidentally died during an argument. The family promptly disposed of her body by burning its mansion. (The Darlings think that way.) Meanwhile, Patrick’s mom has been arrested for another murder. Life gets tricky.

“The Sarah Silverman Program” season-opener, 10:30 p.m., Comedy Central. Silverman plays a wonderfully perverse variation on herself. Here, she smokes marijuana for the first time, becomes giddy and becomes a kidnapper. The result is sometimes overwrought and sometimes quite hilarious.
