Paisano leads Indians to victory

YAKIMA – The Spokane Indians are streaking again.

David Paisano had a home run and drove in five runs, and every Spokane starter had a hit by the fourth inning as the Indians rolled to a 14-2 victory over the Yakima Bears in Northwest League baseball play on Saturday night. It was the Indians’ third straight win.

Spokane (25-7) fell behind 2-0 in the second inning before scoring four runs in the top of the third and seven runs in the fourth to put the game out of reach.

Jason Ogata’s two-run single and Justin Pickett’s two-out run-scoring single highlighted Spokane’s third inning.

Paisano’s two-run double sparked the Indians’ fourth inning. Timothy Rodriguez and Dennis Guinn delivered two-out RBIs – Rodriguez with a single and Guinn with a double.

Paisano hammered a pitch from Yakima reliever Sean Morgan over the left-field fence with two on and one out in the top of the seventh.

The 14 runs are the most the Indians have scored since a 15-3 win over Everett in the season opener on June 17.

Matt Nevarez (3-1) earned the victory for the Indians with two innings of shutout relief. Tim Murphy didn’t allow a hit in three innings of relief and picked up his second save of the season. Starter Martin Perez allowed two runs on six hits in four innings. He struck out three and walked one.

Santo Baez (0-1) took the loss for Yakima (12-20). He allowed four runs – three earned – on five hits in 2 2/3 innings.
