Bligh, Heleker help Vikings tame Bengals

Nate Bligh and Austin Heleker scored 21 points apiece as Coeur d’Alene topped Lewiston 82-66 Saturday in an Inland Empire League game in Lewiston.

Nate Clinton added 14 points for the Vikings (10-4, 5-1), who built a 35-21 halftime lead. Andrew Packwood tossed in 16 points and Shad Strerath added 15 to lead the Bengals (9-4, 4-3).

Elsewhere in the IEL, Drake Hanson scored a game-high 15 points and Spencer Swerin added 13 as Sandpoint (6-9, 2-6) held on to beat visiting Post Falls (8-7, 3-4) 61-56. Spencer Pingel tallied a team-high 13 points for the Trojans, who outscored the Bulldogs 24-14 in the fourth quarter to get within five points.

•Kellogg’s Intermountain League game at Priest River was postponed due to weather conditions. A make-up date hasn’t been announced.

Nick Arhtun scored a game-high 24 points, leading Wallace (8-5, 4-2) to a 67-48 North Star League win over Lakeside (6-7, 1-4) at Plummer. Darrick Holmquist tossed in 11 points and Jordan Beehner added 10 for the Miners. Merlin Weaselhead led the Knights with 11 points.

Nathan Staab scored 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting as Newport (2-13) beat visiting Timberlake (4-9) 70-62 in a non-league game. Devon Willenbrock tossed in 13 points and Pete Waterman added 11 points and eight rebounds for the Grizzlies. Logan Cook tallied a game-high 20 points and 12 rebounds for the Tigers. … In other non-league action, Kyle Nelson scored 12 points as Davenport (5-11) slid past host Rosalia (5-10) 50-44. The Gorillas converted on 11 of their 13 of free-throw attempts, while the Spartans were just 6 of 22 from the line. Kris Widman tallied a game-high 16 points for Rosalia.

Lindsey Stark scored 13 points and Kama Griffitts tossed in 10 as Coeur d’Alene (16-2, 10-0) cruised to an easy 61-24 Inland Empire League win over host Lewiston (8-9, 4-6). The Vikings outscored the Bengals 39-15 in the second half. Brittney Devorak tallied nine points to lead Lewiston. … In other league action, Jenny McVeigh scored 13 points and Kandice McArthur and Jordan Schoening each added 12 as Post Falls (15-3, 8-2) routed host Sandpoint (1-17, 0-11) 61-20. The Trojans came out hot in the opening quarter, outscoring the Bulldogs 17-4. … Amanda North scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds as Lakeland (7-11, 4-7) edged host Moscow (3-15, 2-8) 49-47. The Bears had a chance to win it, but missed a desperation heave at the buzzer. Camille Reynolds tossed in 12 points and Natalie Nichols added 11 for the Hawks.

Katie Poston scored a game-high 15 points, leading Bonners Ferry (11-7, 5-1) past host St. Maries (4-13, 1-6) 59-35. Becky Lowther and Samantha Kelly added nine points each for the Badgers, who outscored the Lumberjacks 34-14 in the first half. Samantha Siron led St. Maries with nine points. … Kellogg’s game at Priest River was postponed due to weather conditions. A make-up date has yet to be announced.

Holli Edelblute and Lorna Grant scored nine points apiece to lead the Tigers. … In other non-league action, Mallory Mielke scored 20 points, including five 3-pointers, as Davenport (9-7) handled Rosalia (4-11) 50-34. Stephanie Morrison added nine points for the Gorillas, who outscored the Spartans 31-15 in the first half. Meaghan Reddish led Rosalia with 13 points.

Caitlin Jeske scored a game-high 14 points and Cami Bullock added 12 as Liberty (15-1, 12-0) smashed Almira/Coulee-Hartline (4-11, 4-9) 61-20 in a Bi-County League game in Hartline. The Lancers outscored the Warriors 22-2 in the first quarter and led 42-8 at halftime. … Ashley Warneke scored 15 points as Wilbur-Creston (5-11, 4-8) edged host Reardan (12-5, 8-5) 55-52. The Wildcats shot 9 of 10 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter. Jen Christerson tallied a game-high 27 points to lead the Indians.
