Site could be the first link to a new job

The Spokesman-Review

One of the hardest-working Web sites devoted to careers and job searching is Job-Hunt.org, launched in 1998 by Susan Joyce. Joyce was a victim of a tech downsizing in the 1990s who quickly figured out she had good instincts for Web marketing and career counseling.

Unlike mega-job finding sites like Monster or Seattle-based Jobster, Job-Hunt is designed to guide visitors to useful sites and helpful links.

Also unlike more attractive, simply designed sites, Job-Hunt is all about heavy content, with numerous links wrapping up and down the page.

It does some things very well. Say you want to find jobs just in Idaho, use the state guide – http://www.job-hunt.org/jobs/states.shtml – and choose the Gem State.

The result is not a table or search option that lets you search by employer or metro area. Instead you find about 90 links to state and county job-posting services, plus several dozen other links to groups that provide job networking.

There you’ll also find a handy one-stop set of links to the major cities and county’s job listing sites. Just below is another list of the 70 or so Web job links for Idaho’s major corporations.

Also useful is a link for employers and human relations directors.

Bottom line: Job-Hunt makes you work for best results. That’s the way it should be; moreover, the assorted added benefits and resources here more than offset the somewhat crowded page design.

Smart Search is a regular feature of .TXT.
