Grabner returns

Michael Grabner is expected to be back in Spokane for practice today, meaning he’ll be suited up for the Chiefs Saturday night against Tri-City.

Newly acquired Corey Courchene probably won’t arrive until after Saturday’s game.

On the injury front, Jared Spurgeon continues to nurse a sore back and is still week-to-week.

Prep basketball

GSL standouts headed to Big Sky

Lewis and Clark’s Lyndi Seidensticker and Mead’s Kelli Valentine have both announced their intent to play basketball in the Big Sky.

Their announcements bring to four the number of Greater Spokane League athletes who have made oral college commitments.

Seidensticker said she will attend Montana State University and Valentine said her choice is Portland State. Both said that they knew on their visits that those were the schools for them.

Both will be fourth-year varsity players at their respective high schools.

Vandals on TV

The University of Idaho-Utah State football game in Logan, Utah will be televised live on the Go Vandals Network.

Stations on the network include cable channel 12 in Spokane and cable channel 8 in Coeur d’Alene.

Kickoff is at noon Pacific time.

College hockey

WSU club paying tribute to Roets

Washington State’s club hockey team will open its season on Friday at the Eagles Ice-A-Rena in Spokane against the University of Southern California and have a special tribute to Cameron Roets, who died in a motorcycle accident last Friday.

Roets, the goaltender for the WSU team, died following an accident near his hometown of Duvall, Wash. He was in the Seattle area with the team.

An account has been set up at Washington Mutual for donations for a scholarship fund in Cameron’s name. Donations will be accepted at any Washington Mutual Financial Center.
