Banged-up Bonnell ready for Saturday

Mike Allende Everett Herald

SEATTLE – Carl Bonnell said he’s feeling a little beat up, but says he is recovered from a concussion suffered in Saturday’s loss to Arizona State and Washington coach Tyrone Willingham said Bonnell will start when the Huskies play at Oregon at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

“We anticipate he will be ready to go on Tuesday and he will be our starting quarterback,” Willingham said.

Bonnell was hurt on a late hit in the fourth quarter and was replaced by junior Johnny DuRocher, who led the Huskies to a tying touchdown and sent the game into overtime. DuRocher playing prompted UW offensive coordinator Tim Lappano to say after the game that it had been decided that freshman Jake Locker would redshirt this year, but on Monday Willingham left open the possibility that Locker could still play.

Locker is listed as third on the depth chart rather than walk-on Felix Sweetman and Willingham said both Locker and DuRocher would get snaps in practice this week. However it seems likely that it would take season-ending injuries to both Bonnell and DuRocher to convince Willingham to play Locker.
