Tech gives Miami rude ACC welcome

Will Bynum scored 21 points and No. 9 Georgia Tech ruined Miami’s Atlantic Coast Conference debut with an 80-69 victory Thursday night at Atlanta.

The Yellow Jackets (10-2, 1-0) built a 14-point halftime lead and held off Miami’s (9-3, 0-1) surge in the first 5 minutes of the second half.

Georgia Tech bounced back from an overtime loss at No. 2 Kansas, also getting 15 points from Luke Schenscher. Jarrett Jack, who had a huge game against the Jayhawks, chipped in 14 points and a team-high nine rebounds.

(15) Texas 74, Memphis 67: At Austin, Texas, P.J. Tucker scored four points in the final 42 seconds, including a fastbreak dunk after a turnover, and the Longhorns (11-2) muscled past the Tigers (7-7) for a rugged victory.

(23) Cincinnati 83, DePaul 54: At Cincinnati, Jason Maxiell scored 19 points, and the Bearcats (12-1, 1-0 C-USA) rattled the Blue Demons (8-4, 0-1) with their intense man-to-man defense.
