Daniels takes charge in Titans’ sweep
In a battle of unbeaten Greater Spokane League volleyball teams, University’s Mandy Daniels came up big.
The senior outside hitter had a game-high 21 digs and 11 kills as the Titans rolled to a 25-20, 25-21, 25-18 win over Ferris Thursday at U-Hi.
Senior Daidre Mendenhall paced the Titans with 14 kills, four aces and five blocks.
Senior Sheridan Brett paced the Saxons with nine kills and three aces. Senior Kasey Blevins led the team with 10 kills, three aces and 14 digs.
In other GSL matches: Gonzaga Prep received eight kills and three blocks from Kelly Mastor in a 25-11, 25-17, 25-10 win at West Valley. Mel Dossey paced WV with eight kills. … Catie Schuetzle led the Highlanders in three categories as Shadle Park topped host East Valley 25-14, 20-25, 25-17, 25-17. Schuetzle paced Shadle in kills (16), aces (four), and digs (13). Angie Smith paced the Knights with 10 kills in game two. … Ivy Bush had a game-high 23 kills as visiting Lewis and Clark kept Central Valley winless in league games, 25-14, 28-26, 25-12. Danielle Porter added 10 digs for the Tigers; Kaley Schafer had 11 for the Bears. … Krista Aspaaf twice served five consecutive points as visiting Mt. Spokane rolled past Cheney 25-10, 25-12, 25-18. Katrina Johnson had eight kills for the victorious Wildcats and Annie Kitchens added eight digs. … Felicia Kinder had six kills and three blocks and Shanteo Haugen dished off 25 assists to lead North Central to a 25-12, 25-21, 25-15 win over visiting Clarkston. Nicole Ward had 10 assists and nine digs for Clarkston. … Debra DeFelice had seven kills and Megan Thigpen came up with eight digs as visiting Mead cruised past Rogers 25-9, 25-12, 25-19. Courtney Robinette had 11 assists for the Pirates.

•Angela Hartill came up big in more ways than one as Riverside survived a five-game, Great Northern League thriller with visiting Medical Lake, 15-25, 25-21, 13-25, 26-24, 15-7. Hartill, a 6-foor-2 senior, led the Rams in four of five statistical categories, including a school-record eight aces – six in the fourth game. Hartill added 14 kills, five digs and five blocks. Riverside sophomore Kayla Newberg also had 14 kills, half of which came in the second game. … Miranda Weitz served five consecutive points in one game, eight in another as Pullman topped host Deer Park 25-12, 25-17, 29-9. Weitz led the Greyhounds with seven kills and Amy Small added 21 assists and a game-high five aces. … Down 1-0 and 12-5 in game two, Colville staged a comeback behind freshman Jordan Emmio to beat visiting Lakeside 25-27, 25-19, 25-19, 25-21. The freshman served seven consecutive points to tie the game and Nikki Bardwell added a pair of aces to even the match at a game apiece. Bardwell and Whitney Loan paced Colville with 13 kills apiece. Richelle Collins had 14 kills and three aces for Lakeside.
