Devil Rays 5, Red Sox 2: At Boston, rookie Scott Kazmir outpitched Pedro Martinez to lead Tampa Bay over Boston and send the Red Sox to consecutive losses for the first time in more than five weeks. The Red Sox, who lead the major leagues in runs, were shut out for a season-high 16 straight innings before pinch-hitter Trot Nixon’s two-run homer in the eighth off Travis Harper.

Yankees 4, Royals 0: At Kansas City, Mo., Mike Mussina pitched three-hit ball for eight innings and struck out a season-high 11, leading New York over Kansas City. Mussina (11-9), who snapped a career-worst five-game losing skid in his previous start, gave up just three singles.

Twins 10, White Sox 2: At Minneapolis, Johan Santana turned in another dominant start with seven shutout innings, and Minnesota used a nine-run sixth inning to beat Chicago and extend its winning streak to seven. Santana (18-6) won his 10th straight start and 11th consecutive decision.

Tigers 11, Indians 3: At Cleveland, Dmitri Young homered and matched his career high with five RBIs to power Detroit to a win over the Indians, stopping a four-game losing streak. Young went 4 for 5 with a three-run homer in the fourth inning off Kyle Denney, who lost in his major league debut.

Rangers 12, Athletics 9: At Oakland, Calif., Hank Blalock and Alfonso Soriano each drove in a pair of runs to propel Texas to a victory over Oakland. Athletics starter Mark Redman lasted just 3 1/3 innings, surrendering seven earned runs on six hits and four walks. The Rangers stranded 24 runners on base in the game.
