Children’s choir concert

Calvary Chapel, 511 W. Hastings St., will present the African Children’s Choir in concert on July 25 at 6 p.m.

This Grammy-nominated choir has 26 children ages 5 to 12 from Africa who perform their native music and popular gospel music and spirituals.

The choir was formed in 1984 by Ray Barnett, who was in Uganda during the country’s civil war. Barnett wanted to find a way for the orphaned children of the war to express themselves through music and contribute to their communities later in life, so he established the music school. The choir has performed all over the world, and there have been schools established in Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya, Sudan and South Africa.
