Moore, Blakely advance to quarterfinals

The Spokesman-Review

Jason Moore is doing his best to emulate his brother.

Moore, the younger brother of U.S. Amateur Champion Ryan Moore, won twice Wednesday at the 50th PNGA Junior Boys’ Amateur Championship at Spokane Country Club, advancing to the quarterfinals.

Moore, from Puyallup, Wash., knocked off medalist Joel Dahmen of Clarkston 1-up in the morning match, then held off Scott Barton of Bend, Ore., 1-up in the afternoon.

But Moore wasn’t the only one on a roll.

Brad Blakely, son of Spokane Country Club’s head golf pro Les Blakley also moved on to the quarters, beating Scott Genoway of Calgary, B.C., 5 and 3, then held off Jamie Neill of Bainbridge Island, Wash., 4 and 3.

Dustin Poe of Spokane fell to Neill in the round of 32 4 and 3 and Nicholas Grigsby of Spokane Valley was beaten by Cory Mehl of Sammamish 5 and 4 in the round of 32.

Matches continue today with the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds.

Local girls struggle

Wednesday was not a good day to have the last name Parsons at the 49th PNGA Junior Girls’ Amateur Championship.

Haley Parsons, of Spokane, fell to Caroline Kim of Port Coquitlam, B.C., 5 and 4 at the Lakeland Village Golf Course in Allyn, Wash.

Mandy Parsons, also of Spokane, lost to Jordan Allyne of Bellevue, Wash., 1-up.

Also, Amy Eneroth of Colbert fell to Seo Hee Moon of Mukilteo, Wash., 1-up and Spokane’s Chessey Thomas lost 1-up to Brittany Tallman of Issaquah, Wash.
