Spokane Public Schools honors its volunteers

Spokane Public Schools has recognized this year’s outstanding volunteers.

They are: Violet Franz, Audubon Elementary; Carol Hennig, North Central High School; Anna Howard, Roosevelt Elementary; Jerene Rivero, Browne Elementary; Debbie Swoboda, Wilson Elementary; Betty Tobin, Bryant’s Enrichment Center; and Don and Doris Holdaway.

• Six faculty members at Eastern Washington University have received the Centurytel Faculty Achievement Award.

They are: Harvey Alvy, associate professor of education; Phebe Blitz, assistant professor of dental hygiene; Michael Conlin, assistant professor of history; Judy Logan, associate professor of English; Michael Ryan, director of field education, EWU School of Social Work; and Harm-Jan Steenhuis, assistant professor of management.

• Marian Ahn Thorpe has graduated with honors from Brown University in Providence, R.I., with degrees in environmental studies and ethnic studies. Thorpe is the daughter of Norman Thorpe and Hyunki Ahn of Spokane and is a 2000 graduate of Ferris High School

• Joseph Farley has graduated from Grove City College in Grove City, Pa., with a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering. Farley is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Farley of Spokane and is a 2000 graduate of Lewis and Clark High School.

• Wesley Wilhelm has earned a Master of Science in economic crime management from Utica College’s Division of Graduate and Continuing Education, Utica, N.Y.

• Jennifer Gossett has graduated from Western Washington University with a Bachelor of Arts in sociology social studies. She is the daughter of Dennis Gossett and Shirley Gossett, both of Spokane Valley.

• The following area residents have graduated from Evergreen State College:

Erin Britton received a Master of Environmental Science. She is the daughter of Cheryl and Mike Britton of Spokane.

Todd Burley received a Master of Environmental Science. He is the son of Wayne and Nancy Burley of Spokane.

Heidi Haberbush, who received a Bachelor of Arts, is the daughter of Mary and Paul Haberbush of Spokane.

Elizabeth Kercher of Spokane graduated with a Bachelor of Arts.

Joshua Meckel graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and is the son of Cerena Lauren and Dan Meckel of Spokane.

Heather Trusty received a Bachelor of Science. She is the daughter of Bruce Trusty, Beth Trusty and Lucy Arrowsmith, all of Spokane.

Tanesha Wright received a Bachelor of Arts. She is the daughter of Bruce and Emma Wright, Spokane.

• Rachel Fairbanks of Liberty Lake has graduated from Trinity College in Hartford, Conn., with a Bachelor of Arts in English. She is the daughter of Carolyn and Russell Fairbanks.

• Jeremy Wynne of Spokane has received a Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary.

• Devin Fitzpatrick has earned an advanced degree in interior design from Washington State University’s Spokane Interdisciplinary Design Institute. She is the daughter of Karen Fitzpatrick of Spokane and Dennis Fitzpatrick of Beverly Hills, Calif.

• Crystal Warren of Colbert has graduated with an Associate of Arts from Sheldon Jackson College in Sitka, Alaska.

• Kevin Boden of Spokane has earned a Master of Music from the Cleveland Institute of Music.
