Regina Halts Chiefs’ Run Spokane Streak Ends At Six As Pats Ease To 4-1 Whl Win

The Spokane Chiefs’ longest winning streak of the season came to an unproductive end Saturday.

Struggling through their fourth road game in five days, the Chiefs dropped a 4-1 Western Hockey League decision to Regina.

The Pats, the third-best team in the WHL’s East at 27-16-4, used a pair of goals from Ronald Petrovicky - including the 100th of his WHL career - and 21 saves by Ryan Hoople to stop Spokane’s roll of six consecutive wins.

The Chiefs (32-14-3) remain three points behind idle Portland (35-8-2) in the West.

Regina scored twice off Spokane goalie Aren Miller in the first 3:26. Petrovicky, taking advantage of assists from Shane Lanigan and Brett Lysak, found the net with his 40th goal of the season at 1:32. Josh Holden of the Pats made it 2-0 when his 28th goal of the year followed assists from Boyd Kane and Brad Stuart.

Spokane broke through at 4:24 of the second period when Zenith Komarniski scored at 4:24 for his first goal as a Chief. Ty Jones was credited with an assist.

The Pats answered at 9:32 of the second on a goal from former Chief John Cirjak, and put the game away at 4:11 of the third when Petrovicky made it 4-1.

Spokane takes its 18-8 road record into Kelowna on Friday night at 7:35. The Chiefs return to the Spokane Arena the following night, again against Kelowna, at 7:05.
