Inmate Who Killed Self Identified

Associated Press

A Renton woman who died after hanging herself early Tuesday in the Auburn City Jail was identified as Sandra B. Harms.

Harms, 39, was arrested early Tuesday in Renton on outstanding warrants after police responded to a domestic violence call. She was transferred to the Auburn jail around 2 a.m.

She had a blood alcohol reading of .231 and did not display any suicidal tendencies, police said.

Harms was seen using the telephone in the jail at 2:45 a.m., then was found hanged 17 minutes later in her cell, where she was the only occupant, said Auburn police Cmdr. Bob Karnofski.

The woman apparently had tied bed sheets to the upper rail of the bed, police said.
