Men Jailed After Salvation Army Theft

From Staff Reports

Two men were jailed late Tuesday in the theft of a Salvation Army Christmas donation stand, police said.

Peter J. Moore, 21, and William L. Hansen, 19, both of Spokane, were booked into the Spokane County Jail for city theft.

Salvation Army bell ringer David Warren was staffing a donation stand at the Rosauers grocery store, 9414 N. Division, about 5:35 p.m. Tuesday.

He saw a man standing nearby and turned to greet a shopper when the man charged him and ran off with the stand, said Clifford Phillips of the Salvation Army.

An unidentified witness called police and followed the men to an apartment at 401 E. Magnesium, police said.

The stand and donations will not be released to the Salvation Army until the investigation is concluded, police said.
