Group Planned For Those Raising Relatives’ Kids

Parenting isn’t easy, even the second time around.

Grandparents raising their grandchildren face additional issues that a new support group will attempt to address.

“Relatives Raising Relatives” is a new program offered by the Children’s Home Society of Washington.

The first meeting will be Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 2 W. Third. A regular meeting time will be picked at the meeting.

The goal of the group is to provide education and support for grandparents, aunts and uncles who are parenting their grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Some of the unique stresses involved will be addressed, such as increased financial demands, isolation from peers, and involvement with the legal system.
