Nascar Dictates Change

Ford Thunderbirds will have a taller rear spoiler beginning at this week’s NASCAR Winston Cup race at Dover Downs International Speedway.

NASCAR announced that it has sent a notice to the Ford teams telling them the minimum height of the rear spoilers has been raised one-quarter inch to 6 inches, matching the Pontiac Grand Prixs and making it a half-inch higher than the 5-inch spoilers used on the new Chevrolet Monte Carlos.

This is just the latest in a series of aerodynamic rule changes announced by the sanctioning body this month in an effort to make competition more even.

Ray Evernham, crew chief for NASCAR star Jeff Gordon, was fined a record $60,000 for using improper suspension parts during last weekend’s Coca-Cola 600.
