The Slice Mabye Seattle Just Gives Us An Inferiority Complex
Face it. A LOT of American cities would seem sort of square if they were in the same state as Seattle.
But we prefer to think of Spokane as unpretentious.
No comment: “Spoils system” and “Sponge” are The World Book Encyclopedia subject headings on either side of the “Spokane” entry.
Sorry, wrong number: Scott R. Bailey could be excused for suspecting that the Swell Paper’s readers are a tad slow on the uptake. He has a phone number that is close to one here at The SpokesmanReview. And even though his answering machine messages tend to be outlandish - for instance, one recent message was in French and another featured a guttural scream - people still leave their newspaperrelated complaints, account numbers, et cetera on his machine. “It’s really pretty absurd,” he said.
Alice Arthur almost got mugged: She was driving on Freya when a guy pulled out of a gas station into traffic next to her. And he turned so sharply that the coffee mug on his dashboard went flying out of his window and narrowly missed Arthur’s car.
