Pullman Wins In Overtime

Frontier League

Matt Wilde was fouled while rebounding with 1 second left in overtime Friday night and made two free throws to give the Pullman Greyhounds (1-0, 7-2) a wild, season-opening 71-69 Frontier League boys’ basketball win over the visiting Colville Indians (0-1, 4-6).

Colville’s Mike Mostek forced OT by making two free throws with 10 seconds left in regulation. A Mostek basket also tied the game at 69 before Wilde scored the winning points.

Pullman’s Mark Diestler made four 3-pointers and scored 25 points. Matt Smith had 23 points and seven rebounds for Colville before fouling out.

David Schillinger had four 3-pointers and scored 24 as the visiting Eagles (1-0, 8-2) defeated the Bantams (0-1, 0-8).

Greg Jones had another three 3-pointers for WV, which finished with eight. Clarkston’s Matt Chatigny had 10 rebounds before fouling out.

Cheney 64, East Valley 43

The host Blackhawks (1-0, 1-7) picked a good time to win their first game, as Mario Chodorowski had 16 points, nine rebounds and three steals in a league-opener against the Knights (0-1, 0-8).

Chodorowski, injured much of the year, helped Cheney pull away after a close first half.

Cheney’s Richard DeMulling had 12 rebounds and five steals. The Knights missed 18 of 23 from the floor in the second half.

Heather Wood had five 3-pointers, including the gameclinching shot, as the Indians (1-0, 5-5) defeated the Greyhounds (0-1, 3-5) in Pullman.

Wood had four of her 3-pointers in the first half, when Colville built a 10-point lead.

Pullman tied the game by scoring the first 10 points of the third quarter. Melissa Schlettert had 22 points, six steals and four assists for the Greyhounds, who missed their final two shots in the closing minute.

Erin Soliday hit two 3-pointers in the first quarter and the host Blackhawks (1-0, 9-0) jumped ahead 20-4 in the first 5 minutes in defeating the Knights (0-1, 1-7).

Melissa Krogh had 10 rebounds for Cheney, which had a 12-0 run in the second quarter. Cheney forced 35 turnovers, 22 coming on steals. EV’s Star Olson scored six of her 13 in the first quarter.

Colleen Lawler had nine rebounds as the visiting Eagles (1-0, 4-6) defeated the foul-plagued Bantams (0-1, 2-7).

WV had no players in double figures, but five with seven or eight points. Seyra Hearsey and Krissy Burt fouled out for Clarkston, while Crystal Poskey, who scored a game-high nine, had four fouls in the first half.
