Ferris Shines In Fourth Quarter, Beats CV 67-43

The Ferris Saxons used a 16-0 run in the fourth quarter to break open a close game en route to a 67-43 win over the Central Valley Bears Thursday night at Ferris.

Scott Stocum scored a game-high 19 points for Ferris (3-0, 7-0), while Craig Henneberry and Leonard Harmon added 15 points and 11 points, respectively.

Ryan Smith scored seven points to lead Central Valley (2-2, 4-3).

The Bears suffered through a dismal 15-for-49 (30 percent) shooting performance, including just 2 of 19 from 3-point range. Ferris, meanwhile, connected at a 54 percent clip (26-48) despite making just 1 of 8 3-pointers.

The Saxons took control with an 11-1 spurt in the first quarter, extending a two-point lead to a dozen at the end of the period. Central Valley rallied to pull within 31-25 early in the third quarter, but could get no closer.

Paul Mencke scored a game-high 22 points and pulled down eight rebounds to spark the Tigers (2-2, 5-2) to a win over the visiting Highlanders (2-2, 3-5).

Lewis and Clark, trailing by two at the half, took the lead for good in the third quarter. Nate Dunham tallied 20 points to pace the Highlanders. Chris Anderson added 12 points. Mike Homer totaled 15 points and Dealy Etter had 10 points for Lewis and Clark.

Mead 61, North Central 42

The Panthers (2-1, 3-3) pulled away in the second half to defeat the Indians (1-2, 4-3) at the Arena.

NC closed within two in the opening minutes of the third quarter before going cold. Mead put four players in double figures, led by Damian Long with 21 points, and knocked down six 3-pointers. Adam Morris had three 3s and 13 points.

NC, without injured starter Marshall Kuhlman, who hurt his right ankle in practice, was led by Jerry Holdren with 13 points.

The Titans (2-2, 4-3) opened a big lead early and the Pirates (0-4, 1-7) never recovered, despite getting untracked in the fourth quarter at the Arena.

Erik Carlson led a balanced attack with 13 points for the Titans, who only got to the foul line four times, scoring twice.

Nathan Smith had 18 points for the Pirates.
