Ocean salmon fishing seasons limited by low coho forecast

Washington will have scaled down ocean salmon fishing seasons this year, but they could have been worse. State, federal and tribal officials in mid-March raised the possibility of closing all ocean salmon fishing in order to protect the extremely weak wild coho runs forecast for 2016 in many Puget Sound and coastal streams.

‘Take Me Fishing’ trailer headed to Idaho lakes

Several times a week through June, staff and volunteers will open the Take Me Fishing trailer to the public in Idaho. The fishing gear and helpful advice is loaned at no charge to kids and novice adults so they can give the sport a try.

Fishing briefs: Steelhead license plate approved

Coming in 2017, a new Washington specialty license plate will help fund efforts to conserve wild steelhead. The 2016 Washington legislature approved the sale of license plates featuring an image of the state’s iconic fish in the background.
