Lewiston double homicide suspect arrested in Oregon

A 73-year-old suspect in a Lewiston double homicide was arrested just south of the Washington-Oregon state line Tuesday morning.

The Lewiston Police Department said Richard Carlin, suspected of killing two people and injuring a third, was taken into custody in Umatilla, Oregon, without incident. He is the only person of interest in the killing.

At about 5 a.m. Tuesday, officers discovered the bodies of two adults in a trailer in the 600 block of Preston Avenue south of the Lewiston Center Mall, said police Lt. Jeff Klone. A third victim was located and is currently in serious condition at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center with a stab wound to his back.

The identities of the victims have not been released.

Carlin, a Lewiston resident, led police on an hours-long manhunt before he was caught just south of the state line by Oregon authorities. He has a limited criminal history in Idaho. In 2004 he was sentenced to 10 years in jail for sexual abuse of a child under 16 years of age.
